The route is straightforward and swift, though you must stay vigilant regarding the local zero-tolerance alcohol policy; police presence is common, and enforcement is strict on both sides of the border. Ensure your digital vignette is active before pulling onto the motorway, as Hungary uses an electronic registration system that leaves no room for manual error.
Crossing the border at Rajka is nearly seamless as you transition from the Hungarian M15 onto the Slovak D2. While the transition itself feels minor, the shift in infrastructure is immediate. You will notice the motorway surfacing and signage change as you enter Slovakia, where the mandatory electronic vignette system remains in place. Keep a close eye on your speedometer, as the transition zone often features fluctuating speed limits that catch out drivers transitioning from high-speed motorway stretches.
